Kakimori Bunko hosts a variety of learning events through its Kakimori Cultural College and otherwise, including seminars, lectures, workshops, presentations on exhibitions, and more.

Kakimori Cultural College

Reading course (read Kuzu no Matsubara, the starting point for the study of Basho’s poetic theory)

Lecturer: Nobuo Hori (Professor Emeritus at Kobe University)

A critical reading of the world of Basho’s works through the Kuzu no Matsubara, the only work on poetic theory to be published when Basho was alive.

  • Time/date: Every fourth Saturday starting at 10:30 AM
  • Held ten times a year

Haiku course

Lecturer: Etsuko Oishi (member of the “Tsuru” haiku group)

Learn how to write haiku, starting with the basics. Broaden your worldview through the use of seasonal language.

 Haiku course for men

Lecturer: Junya Mimura (President of Sazanka, and professor at the Osaka University of Arts)

Writing haiku is an excellent way to clear the head and relax the mind. Local haiku groups are typically very popular with women, which tends to keep men from joining in. Why not polish up your haiku skills with the guys? Nobody has to know.

Enjoy a critical reading of original letters by Yosa Buson in the Kakimori Bunko collection in this course, which also touches on the poet’s haikai, haiga paintings, and life.

Research course (The life of Rihei Okada through the eyes of Nenten Tsubouchi)

Lecturer: Nenten Tsubouchi (poet, Itami ambassador)

Get to know the rich character of Kakimori Bunko founder Professor Okada, who in addition to being a poetry scholar enjoyed numerous interests and hobbies. This course uses his publications, notes, and manuscripts to glimpse his life from a variety of angles.
