ベルギーの首都ブリュッセルから東へ80キロメートルに位置するリンブルグ州の州都。現在も中世の建物が残る美しい町で、州の政治、経済、文化の中心地です。
ヨーロッパ最古の酒・ジンの特産地でもあり、1992年にはヨーロッパ最大級の日本庭園が本市の技術協力により完成しました。(写真は日本庭園でのお花見の様子(2009年4月))

Hasselt City (Belgium): Sister-city affiliation was formed on April 5th 1985. Hasselt is the capital of Limburg Province located 80 kilometers east of Brussels, the Belgian capital. The vestiges of buildings from the medieval ages can still be seen in this beautiful city, a central spot for the administration, economics and culture of this province. Hasselt is also known for producing the oldest gin in Europe, a special local product. The largest Japanese garden in all of Europe was completed here in 1992 with technical assistance from our city.
